Cowboy Baseball Picked Sixth

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State has been picked to finish sixth in the 2011 Big 12 Conference baseball standings in a preseason vote of the league's head coaches, it was announced by the conference office today.
Eighth-year head coach Frank Anderson's Cowboys are coming off a 29-26 season in which they finished 10th in the conference standings with an 8-19 record. OSU returns five position starters from a year ago, including All-Big 12 second baseman Davis Duren, who led the Cowboys in hitting in 2010. Anderson's club also returns sophomore southpaw Andrew Heaney, who led the Pokes in wins a year ago.
Oklahoma was the coaches' choice to win the conference championship as the Sooners received six first-place votes. Texas, the two-time defending Big 12 champion, was second with four first-place votes. Texas A&M was third, followed by Baylor, and Kansas State occupied the fifth spot. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
OSU opens the season Friday when the Cowboys host Bryant at 4 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
