STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team improved to 5-0 on the year with an 80-57 victory over Missouri State on Thursday night in front of 2,025 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Lady Bears (4-3) made five of their first 10 3-point shots to lead 17-15 before the Cowgirls countered with a 10-0 run to take a lead they would not surrender.
Despite finishing the first half 0-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, OSU produced a 34-24 lead through the first 20 minutes. The Cowgirls limited the Lady Bears to a 29 percent shooting effort and forced nine MSU turnovers in the period. In addition to 10 points off turnovers in the half, OSU was also able to take advantage of its size and athleticism in the paint, outscoring the Lady Bears 22-6 in the lane.
MSU trimmed the lead back to eight with the first bucket of the second half before the Cowgirls knocked down their first two 3-pointers of the contest on consecutive possessions to quickly extend the margin to 40-26.
After the Lady Bears got within 42-33, OSU answered with eight-straight points and 15 of the next 19 to go up 57-37 and put the game out of reach.
In the second half, the Cowgirls shot 61 percent from the floor to finish at 50 percent for the contest.
OSU was equally impressive defensively, limiting MSU to just a 30 percent success rate from the field and holding Naismith Trophy candidate Casey Garrison to four points on a 1-of-10 shooting night.
Sophomore Tiffany Bias led the Cowgirls with 19 points, 11 assists and six steals for her second double-double of the season. Junior Toni Young came off the bench with 17 points and freshman Liz Donohoe and sophomore Kendra Suttles added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
MSU's Jasmine Malone led all scorers with 21 points.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 18 when they host Texas-Pan American at 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
