STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy, fresh off leading his Cowboys to a school-record 11 regular season wins, is receiving postseason recognition for his team's performance.
He has been named one of 10 finalists for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award and has received the American Football Coaches Association's 2011 Regional Coach of the Year Award for FBS region four.
The Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award is given annually to a coach who displays sportsmanship, integrity, responsibility and excellence on and off the field. Fans can vote for Gundy at www.coachoftheyear.com.
If Gundy wins the award, he will receive $50,000 for charity and $20,000 for an alumni association scholarship.
For the AFCA award, he joins other regional winners Dabo Swinney of Clemson, Les Miles of LSU, Kevin Sumlin of Houston and David Shaw of Stanford as recipients of the honor.
These honors come just a day after Gundy was named one of five finalists for the 2011 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. Fellow finalists for that award are Michigan's Brady Hoke, Miles, Swinney and Kansas State's Bill Snyder.
In addition to leading OSU to its first 11-win regular season, Gundy led OSU to its first Big 12 Championship and its first BCS bowl berth, where the Cowboy's will take on Shaw and the Stanford Cardinal on Jan. 2 in Tempe, Ariz.
