KANSAS CITY, Kan. - For the second consecutive year, Oklahoma State goalkeeper AD Franch has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer.
A junior from Salina, Kan., Franch turned in a record-setting season in goal for the Cowgirls in 2011. Despite missing six games due to injury, she recorded a school-record 12 shutouts in the 20 matches she played. She ranked second in the NCAA in goals-against average (0.348) and third in save percentage (0.92) and finished the season with 81 saves.
A unanimous All-Big 12 Conference First Team selection, Franch logged over 1,800 minutes in goal this season and allowed just seven goals, helping lead the Cowgirls to a 22-2-2 record and a second-straight appearance in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinals. She notched six shutouts in eight Big 12 games to propel OSU to a regular season conference championship.
Franch has recorded an OSU-record 32 shutouts in her three seasons in Stillwater and has led the Big 12 in that statistic in each of those years. She is the first Cowgirl to twice be named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Head coaches of NCAA Division I programs who are current members in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America will vote to determine the 2011 MAC Hermann Trophy recipient. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 9, and those finalists will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Jan. 6 to announce the winner.
