OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Oklahoma State forward Krista Lopez is one of 10 finalists for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer, it was announced today.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
Lopez, a preseason All-Big 12 selection, leads OSU with seven goals to go along with four assists and has helped the Cowgirls to a 14-0-0 record and No. 2 national ranking. She set an OSU single-game record with four goals against Arkansas-Little Rock in a game last month and was named the Disney/NSCAA National Player of the Week for her performance. Lopez ranks in the top 10 all time at OSU in goals (26), assists (14) and points (66).
A native of Carrollton, Texas, Lopez carries a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA with a double major in management and accounting. In 2010, she earned first-team Academic All-America honors from both ESPN The Magazine and the NSCAA. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team performer and has been named to the Big 12 Honor Roll five times. In 2010, she was an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar First Team choice and was an NSCAA Scholar All-South Region First Team and ESPN/CoSida Academic All-District 6 First Team selection.
Lopez serves the community through work with the Stillwater Humane Society and the Special Olympics, and she is also a volunteer at the Family Resource Center. Last December, she helped with a Christmas party for disadvantaged youth at her church.
