WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Oklahoma State junior Quinn Sharp has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2011 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, which is presented annually to college football's top kicker.
Sharp will look to give Oklahoma State back-to-back Groza Award winners as Dan Bailey took home the hardware in 2010.
A native of Mansfield, Texas, Sharp has been nearly automatic on field goal attempts in 2011, connecting on 11 of his 13 tries, and he has nailed 43 of his 44 PATs.
Sharp is No. 9 nationally in scoring with 10.86 points per game, and he set a school record earlier this season by going 10-for-10 on extra point tries against Kansas. He also leads the nation with 34 touchbacks on kickoffs, and he has led the country in that category each of the past two seasons.
Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS Head Coaches and SIDs, along with national and regional football writers, past Groza winners and others who will select the three finalists. These finalists will be honored at the 20th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on Dec. 6 in West Palm Beach, Fla. The presentation will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 8.
