Franch Named Big 12 Defensive POW

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State goalkeeper AD Franch was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, it was announced today by the league office.
Franch helped OSU stay unbeaten on the season at 16-0-2 and remain atop the Big 12 Conference standings at 5-0-2 with a road win at Baylor and a scoreless draw at Texas A&M last weekend. In 200 minutes of action, Franch recorded two shutouts and nine saves.
In Friday's contest against Baylor, Franch's four saves helped OSU to a 1-0 win over the Bears, who entered the game tied with the Cowgirls atop the Big 12 standings. On Sunday in College Station, where OSU was 0-6-0 all time, Franch notched another shutout, this time recording five saves, against the top scoring offense in Division I women's soccer. Texas A&M entered the match averaging over 3.5 goals per game and had only been shut out three times in their first 17 games of the season, but the Aggies could not muster a score in 110 minutes against Franch and the Cowgirls.
A junior from Salina, Kan., Franch leads the Big 12 in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts per game. Her seven shutouts rank second in the league and are the fourth most in a single season in OSU history.
Franch is the second Cowgirl to earn a weekly award from the conference this season, joining Krista Lopez, who was named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6.
