Cowgirl Equestrian Tramples SMU, 9-1

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State equestrian hunt seat team (1-0) defeated the SMU Mustangs, 9-1, in the season opener at Animal Science Arena Saturday.
The Cowgirls kicked off the day with a decisive 4-1 victory in equitation over fences. Sammy Elser led the Pokes with an 84-80 victory in the first head-to-head competition of the day. The sophomore earned MVP honors for her performance. Junior Ellie Sparks, sophomore Andrea Robbins and freshman Maggie Gampfer added victories for the Cowgirls in the discipline.
Oklahoma State needed just two points in equitation on the flat to secure the victory, but finished with a clean sweep in the discipline. Sophomore Allison Dooman shined with a 78-60 win over her Mustang counterpart, picking up MVP honors. Sparks and Robbins both earned their second head-to-head victories on the day, and senior Jordan White and sophomore Ali Rose added two more.
The Cowgirls will open the conference schedule when they host the Baylor Bears on October 15 at Animal Science Arena.
