STILLWATER – Oklahoma State freshman linebacker Shaun Lewis has been named to the 2010 FWAA Freshman All-America team for his outstanding performance this season, the organization announced today.
Lewis was a consistent contributor from the moment he stepped on campus. After serving as a backup to start his career, Lewis fought his way into the starting lineup by midseason and finished the season ranked fifth on the team with 58 total tackles and 49 solo stops, second with three interceptions and second with eight tackles for a loss. He also tied for the team lead with two fumble recoveries and led the Cowboys with three forced fumbles.
In addition to his impressive stats, Lewis' season highlights include a game changing interception in the final minute of play against Texas A&M that led to an OSU win and a momentum-shifting 52-yard interception return for a score against Oklahoma.
The Missouri City, Texas native is one of five athletes from the Big 12 and one of 20 true freshmen on the team.
Lewis has also been named to the Rivals.com Freshman All-America team and named as the Big 12 Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year. He is the second Oklahoma State athlete to receive the FWAA Freshman All-America team honor, joining former Cowboy Andre Sexton, who was named to the 2006 squad.
