OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team will open its fall slate on Friday when it begins play at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The Cowboys, who enter the 2010-11 campaign as the top-ranked squad in the country, will be one of 15 teams in action at the par-70, 7,157-yard layout. OSU will begin play at 8:00 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with Illinois and Stanford. The event will consist of 54 holes with 18 holes being played each day Friday through Sunday.
Last year, former Cowboy Trent Whitekiller tied Georgia's Harris English for medalist honors, making him the second OSU player to win in the four-year history of the event. Rickie Fowler won the individual crown in 2007.
The Cowboys also won the team title in 2007. Arizona State is the defending champion. OSU's lineup will consist of senior Kevin Tway and juniors Morgan Hoffmann and Peter Uihlein. Joining the trio will be a pair of Cowboys making their first career starts as redshirt freshman Kevin Dougherty and true freshman Talor Gooch round out the starting five.
Live scoring for the event will be available at www.golfstat.com.
