BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fresh off his victory at the U.S. Amateur on Sunday, Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein was named the National Amateur of the Month for August by the Southern Golf Association today.
Uihlein knocked off Stanford's David Chung, 4 and 2, in Sunday's 36-hole championship final at Chambers Bay to become the fourth Cowboy to win amateur golf's most prestigious event.
The victory wrapped up a solid summer for the Cowboy junior, who won the Sahalee Players Championship by seven shots in July. He also tied for second at the Porter Cup and tied for seventh at the Sunnehana Amateur. Uihlein played in the Nationwide Tour's Children's Hospital Invitational as well.
Uihlein also received the SGA's award last September after helping the U.S. to victory at the Walker Cup.
Following the U.S. Amateur, the Orlando, Fla., native was one of three players named to the United States team for this fall's World Amateur Team Championship in Argentina.
