Stillwater, OK—Junior Kendra Woodson and Senior Natalia Kovtun were two of 551 student-athletes to be honored today as USTFCCCA 2010 Division I Track and Field All-Academic Honorees. Kovtun and Woodson are the first two Cowgirls to make the list since 2006.
“They did a great job on the track this year and equaled that in the classroom,” Head coach Dave Smith said.
Both Kovtun and Woodson were honored with Academic All-Big 12 nominations with Woodson making the first team and Kovtun making the second team.
“Both girls are great athletes and are great models for the other girls on the team because they showed they can get it done on the track and in the classroom,” Smith said.
551 student-athletes was a record total this year for All-Academic, which was comprised of 150 different institutions. Nebraska came in first for the second year in a row with 18 nominees and the Big 12 Conference came in second with 64 nominated student-athletes.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in their respective event.
