STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State redshirt freshman wrestler Chris Perry will compete at the FILA Junior Freestyle World Championships tomorrow in Budapest, Hungary. It will be Perry's second consecutive appearance at the junior world championships, as he placed sixth last year.
Wrestling at 84 kilograms, Perry earned his spot on Team USA by dominating the field at the U.S. Junior World Team Trials in May. His first-round opponent Sunday will be Finland's Ville Heino.
Other members of Team USA at the event are 16-year-old Pennsylvania high schooler Nick Roberts at 50 kg, Iowa State signee Ryak Finch at 55 kg, Iowa's Matt McDonough at 60 kg, Boise State's Jason Chamberlain at 66 kg, Illinois' Conrad Polz at 74 kg, Minnesota signee Tyler Lehmann at 96 kg and Ohio's Jeremy Johnson at 120 kg.
Wrestling exclusively in open tournaments as a true freshman during the 2009-10 collegiate season, Perry compiled a 15-1 overall record with 10 of those wins coming with bonus points attached. His only defeat of the season came at the hands of teammate and eventual All-American Clayton Foster in the championship match of the Central Missouri Open.
