STILLWATER – Due to his outstanding giving back and volunteerism, Oklahoma State football player Andrew McGee was nominated for the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced today.
The award's purpose is to honor NCAA student-athletes who have made an impact in their communities and share their stories. It is possibly the highest community service award given in college football.
McGee, a senior cornerback from Magee, Miss., was one of 112 football student-athletes nominated team, the most in the award's 19-year history. There are more than 50,000 student-athletes competing at four-year institutions who are eligible to make the team.
The final 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team roster will be announced late in September and will consist of 22 team members; 11 from NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision teams and 11 from NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III, and the NAIA.
In addition to his great work off the field, McGee also looks to be a key for the Cowboys at the corner spot this year. Although his 2009 season was cut short due to an injury, McGee recorded 32 tackles, which is second among returning players, as well as six pass break-ups and an interception.
