STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State wrestler Obenson Blanc earned a spot on the U.S. senior freestyle world team after beating former NCAA champion Angel Escobedo at the world team trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa over the weekend.
Blanc was a 1-0, 2-0 winner in the opening match of the best-of-three championship series against Escobedo. Escobedo then responded with a 1-0, 1-1 win over Blanc to push the series to the deciding match, which Blanc won by a dominating 1-0, 4-0 score.
As a member of the U.S. senior world team, Blanc is now slated to compete at the FILA world championships in Moscow this September.
The 2008-09 season was Blanc's only one at Oklahoma State, as he compiled a 30-10 overall record that included a 16-6 mark in duals wrestling in the Orange singlet. During his one year with the Cowboys, Blanc won eight bouts against ranked opponents and ranked third on the team with 40 takedowns. Blanc came to Stillwater after graduating from Lock Haven University.
