Blanc, Scott Earn Pan Am Medals

STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State wrestlers Obenson Blanc and Coleman Scott both earned freestyle medals at the 2010 Pan American Games in Monterrey, Mexico today. Blanc was the silver medalist at 55 kilograms and Scott took bronze at 60 kilograms.
For Blanc, it was his second consecutive Pan Am Games silver medal, as he was the runner-up in 2009 as well. Scott bagged his first international-level medal with his performance on Sunday.
As a team, the United States finished third with 50 points. Cuba won the event with 60 points and Canada was second with 57.
Blanc started his run to the finals with a convincing win over Mexico's Arturo de Jesus Chavez Ramirez. He then pitched a 4-0, 3-0 win over Dominica's Juan Rubelin Ramirez Beltre in the semifinals. In the finals, Blanc held a 2-0 lead over Cuba's Frank Chamizo Marquez after the first period, but Chamizo Marquez rallied to win the second period by a 2-1 score then claimed the decisive third period. 3-0.
Scott won his first-round bout with El Salvador's Luis Portillo on technical points, but lost a 1-0, 2-0 decision to Cuba's Alejandro Enrique Valdes Tobier in the semifinals. Scott bounced back in the third-place match to claim a dominant shutout win over Mexico's Alan Cristobal Olvera Lopez that earned the former Cowboy national champion a spot on the medal stand.
