Cowgirl Netters Lose at Big 12s

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 58 Oklahoma State women's tennis was eliminated from the 2010 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championship Friday, falling, 4-1, No. 2-seeded and 18th-ranked Texas, 4-1, at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
“I thought that it was definitely a tough match,” coach Chris Young said. “I think that we came out and played our best doubles of the season. We really took it to them and competed well, and I think that in singles we made Texas work for it, and that is what we wanted. We wanted our girls to compete really well, and that is what they did. They left everything they had, and I am really proud of them.”
The match started with doubles competition, where the Cowgirls earned a close win to earn the team point.
In the first two matches finished, Texas' Sarah Lancaster and Caroline Larsson claimed the No. 3 win, followed by a win from Sasha Belova and Sarah Meghoufel at the No. 2 spot.
With only the No. 1 match remaining to decide the doubles point, Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Alisa Buslaieva earned a hard fought win over Texas' Vanja Corovic and Aeriel Ellis, 9-7, to put the Cowgirls up, 1-0.
OSU, now 13-10 on the year, could not continue their momentum in singles play, however, losing in two sets at No. 3, 5, 6 and 4 singles to give the Longhorns a 4-1 win.
The Cowgirls now wait to find out if they have earned an NCAA Tournament berth. The bracket will be released, Tuesday, May 4.
