The Basics
Oklahoma State's Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday night for the Arkansas Twilight.
A Fast Start
Cowboys John Kosgei and Colby Lowe are both in good position to qualify for the NCAA West Region Championships in the 5,000 meters.
Kosgei is in 10th on the West Outdoor Performance List, while Lowe is in the No. 11 spot. Raul Botezan is 14th on the 1,500 meter list.
She Must Be a Miler
In her third year of competition for the Cowgirls, junior Mihaela Susa seems to have found a distance that works for her.
After finishing fifth in the mile (approximately 1,600 meters) at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Susa has staked claim to the third-fastest time in the NCAA in the 1,500 meters this season.
The Cluj-Napoca, Romania, native clocked a 4:13.08 at the Mt. Sac Relays on April 16.
A New System
Gone is the four-region NCAA Championship system that has been used for the past seven years. The new system features two regional sites and a final site, essentially making the NCAA Championships a two-weekend affair.
There are no longer regional and automatic qualifying marks, instead the top 48 in each region will advance to the regional. Each round, starting with the regional will have a national component. The first round of the regionals will be known as the NCAA Championships first round.
