STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State wrestlers Obenson Blanc and Coleman Scott will be in action representing the United States freestyle team at the Pan American Games this Sunday in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Pan American Championships features nations from North America, Central America and South America.
Blanc is fresh off winning the 55 kilogram title at the U.S. Open last weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. He is one of eight U.S. Open champions competing at the Pan Am Games. A 2007 All-American wrestling for Lock Haven University, Blanc transferred to Oklahoma State for his senior year in 2008-09. Since then, he has been a strong performer in the freestyle ranks. He took the silver medal at last year's Pan Am games in Maracaibo, Venezuela and was third at the 2009 world team trials.
A four-time All-American wrestling for the Cowboys from 2005-08, Scott won the 2008 NCAA title at 133 pounds and ranks 10th in OSU history in wins by major decision. Scott was third in the 60 kilogram weight class at last week's U.S. Open.
Joining Blanc and Scott on the U.S. roster are Tyler Nauman at 66 kilograms, Trent Paulson at 74 kilograms, Keith Gavin at 84 kilograms, J.D. Bergman at 96 kilograms and Tervel Dlagnev at 120 kilograms. The team is coached by Arizona State's Shawn Charles and Iowa State's Chris Bono.
