TRINITY, Texas - Oklahoma State's men's golf team pulled away from the field with a 282 during Sunday's final round at the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club to capture its fourth-straight league title.
The crown was also OSU's league-best eighth title since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996.
The top-ranked Cowboys' 6-under score, which was the round of the day by five shots at the par-72, 7,425-yard layout, gave them a 1,133 total. OSU's 19-under score was 13 shots better than Texas A&M and was the third largest margin of victory in the history of the event. The Cowboys also set a new 72-hole scoring standard for the championship.
Texas Tech's Chris Ward posted a 74 during his final round to finish at 279, 9-under par, to hold off OSU's Peter Uihlein for the individual crown. The sophomore came in at 281 after posting a 2-under 70 to close play. Uihlein made the turn at even par before catching fire on the back nine. The Orlando, Fla., native birdied Nos. 10, 12, 13 and 14 before closing with a birdie at the 18th to earn his second-straight top 10 and his fifth of the season.
Uihlein led an impressive individual showing for the Cowboys, finishing as one of four players in orange and black in the top 10. Redshirt freshman Sean Einhaus, junior Kevin Tway and sophomore Morgan Hoffmann joined Uihlein on the all-tournament team.
Einhaus fired the squad's round of the day with a 3-under 69 to finish alone in fifth at 283 and earn his second top five of the spring. The Borken, Germany native got going early with three-straight birdies to start his round. After falling back to even par, he birdied the seventh to turn at 1-under 35 before playing bogey-free golf on the back nine and posting birdies at the 12th and 17th to log his career-low round.
Tway posted his low round of the event to close, firing a 1-under 71 to move into the top 10. The Edmond, Okla., native finished tied for seventh at 288.
Sophomore Morgan Hoffmann earned his second-straight top 10, finishing at 288 as well after signing for a 73 on Sunday.
Senior Trent Whitekiller recorded his second-straight 72 to finish tied for 22nd place at 294.
