OSU Head Coach Kurt Budke
Opening Statement
“I don't think you have to look very far to see they outrebounded us 49-31. Give them credit. I thought they executed like the more experienced team today. I thought the point guards would kind of cancel each other out. And for the most part they did. It just came down to the boards. You cannot win in this league giving up 20 offensive rebounds. What is disappointing about this is that we went down to Texas A&M and out-rebound them 52-38 and then come back home and get out-rebounded by 18. So it was a very disappointing day. It's not the end of the season. We're not in a bad spot. We just need to learn from today and understand that if we don't block out any better than we did today, then we've got more losses coming.”
“When you play Texas A&M, Nebraska and Oklahoma in the same week, it's tough. Tegan wasn't feeling good, and you could see that. We just didn't have that step. We saw it the other night in Nebraska. I think this is the perfect time for a break. We don't play again until next Saturday. I don't want to take anything away from Oklahoma. They played a really nice game.”
On Abi Olajuwon
“I think Abi played her role very nicely today. She kept pounding the glass and when she didn't get it, she had a hand on it. We've been a pretty good rebounding team this year but they blocked out better than us and they came to the offensive glass better than us. That's the difference in the game.”
Andrea Riley
On getting outrebounded
“They really box out well as a team and I think they're very committed to boxing out and it was really hard for us to go get those offensive rebounds that we usually get in different games. I think they really were committed to boxing us out tonight and they went to every board really hard.”
On back-to-back losses
“It's kind of hard when you go there and get embarrassed like that. In this league, you do have to forget, but the only way you forget is if you win. Now that you have two losses back to back, it's kind of soaking in and it hurts, but at the same time, if you go out and don't play hard or don't play your best or don't take advantage of something then another team will come in here and they will beat you on your home floor.”
On what she says to the team after two consecutive losses
“You just have to talk to the team and say, 'We've been through it before.' My sophomore year we went through it and we really decided to bounce back. It just shows who you are and how you are mentally and how you are as a human being and if you can stick together through adversity.”
Tegan Cunningham
On the game
“They just worked a lot harder than we did, All those 50-50 balls, they just wanted it more in the end I guess. We've just got to go back and re-evaluate and get focused on our next game.”
On if fatigue is a factor after a tough stretch of games
“That's one issue, but we're a team now. We should be able to bounce back from the Nebraska game with no excuses on our behalf. We should just work hard as a team and come together.”
OU Head Coach Sherri Coale
On her team's ability to bounce back from loss against Texas
“As disappointed as I was in our basketball team on Wednesday night, I was proud of them and then some for their effort today. I thought they were fantastic together. I'm proud to be their coach.”
On her team's offensive rebounding
“The rebounding advantage was huge, obviously. I thought, individually, our guys did a job and, collectively, we did a good job. We got to the 50-50 balls that we haven't been getting a bunch of.”
OU guard Danielle Robinson
On trying to forget about the loss to Texas
“I don't think you can forget it. It's all going to be there. It was only a few days before this one. It was still there. You always remember that because it was more about us than it was about Texas. It was about our effort and that's something we can control. We knew we had to change it.”
On her career-high 36 points
“It was a team effort. Our post ability to rebound and get quick outlets led to some transition buckets. Some screens got me open to shoot jumpers. I think it was an all-around effort on everybody's part.”
