STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Cowgirls have signed three players to their 2010 recruiting class, it was announced today by OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
Carmichael received signatures from two of Oklahoma's top high school players as well as a prep star from the state of Texas.
“We lost three seniors so we're basically replacing all of them,” Carmichael said. “All three signees have a chance to play immediately. They're all very talented athletes, and they all played for very good club teams. The quality level of competition and coaching they had at the club level should help them make the adjustment to college soccer pretty easily.”
The following is a breakdown of OSU's signees.
• Hayley Harryman, GK, Edmond, Okla. (North HS) – Harryman played five years on the Oklahoma ODP '91 team and participated in the ODP Region III Camp three times. As a member of Hurricane Futball Club '92, coached by Kerry Shubert, Harryman helped the squad win two Oklahoma State Cup championships and advance to the USYSA Region III quarterfinals in 2008 and 2009.
A 2009 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year nominee, Harryman led Edmond North to back-to-back appearances in the Class 6A state finals in 2007 and 2008. She was an all-conference and all-district performer in 2009.
Carmichael on Harryman: “Hayley is a tremendous athlete who covers the goal very well. Her distribution is excellent, and she's very good with her feet. She's also a very good field player, and that helps her in goal.
“She's a kid that we recruited very hard and one of the best goalkeepers to come out of the state of Oklahoma in years.”
• Kristen Kelley, MF, Tulsa, Okla. (Bishop Kelley HS) - A member of the Oklahoma ODP '91 team, Kelley helped Hurricane Futball Club '92 to four-straight Oklahoma State Cup championships and three consecutive appearances in the Region III quarterfinals.
A two-sport star at Bishop Kelley High School, Kelley led the Comets to back-to-back Class 5A state championships in 2007 and 2008. A four-year starter, she was named the team's outstanding offensive player three times and was an NSCAA/adidas All-American. She also earned Scholar All-America and All-Region honors from NSCAA/adidas.
On the basketball court, she was twice named team MVP and was a second-team All-Metro selection by the Tulsa World.
Carmichael on Kelley: “Kristen is a great athlete who's also a very good basketball player — she just excels at athletics. She's fast, very good at covering a lot of ground in the midfield and is very good in possession. She's just a very good all-around player. We like her as a midfielder, but she could play in the back or up front just as easily.”
• Taylor Mathews, MF, Dallas, Texas (J.J. Pearce HS) – Mathews has played on the NTSSA '92 ODP Team since 2006 and helped lead the team to a national championship in 2009. She was selected for the ODP Regional Pool from 2006-08.
As a member of the Dallas Texans Soccer Club, Mathews played for coach Ryan Higginbotham and was part of the 2009 U-17 NTX state championship team. The squad also placed first in the USYS National League and finished third at the 2009 USYS National Championships.
At J.J. Pearce High School, Mathews was a two-time all-district performer who captured all-tournament honors in leading her team to a 4A state title in 2009.
Carmichael on Mathews: “She's a very skillful player who's great on the ball. She gets a ton of assists and also scores quite a few goals, and we expect her to contribute offensively for us immediately.”
