KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Oklahoma State achieved a program-best No. 5 national ranking in the final 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/HendrickCars.com Rankings, which were released today.
The Cowgirls' previous high NSCAA national ranking to end a season was in 2008, when OSU finished 13th in the final poll. In 2006, OSU was ranked 12th in the final polls of both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz.
“It is a great achievement to finish the season as the No. 5-ranked team in the nation,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “We are very proud of what our team accomplished this year, and we look forward to building on our success next year.”
OSU's 2010 season included a school-record 20 wins, a berth in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and a third consecutive Big 12 Conference championship. The Cowgirls finished 20-4-2 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tourney after failing to advance past the second round for four years in a row. Carmichael's squad also claimed a Big 12 Championship title for the second-straight year.
The Cowgirls will return 10 starters in 2011, including All-Americans AD Franch and Melinda Mercado and five All-Big 12 performers.
