CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein successfully defended his title at the Dixie Amateur on Tuesday, firing a 66 at Heron Bay Golf Club.
After opening with rounds of 67 and 70, Uihlein entered the final round in a five-way tie for the top spot on the leaderboard. However, the Cowboy junior used his final-round total to finish at 203 and two shots clear of the field.
The victory caps a highly successful 2010 for Uihlein, who won also the U.S. Amateur and the Sahalee Players Championship on the amateur circuit.
On the collegiate level, the Orlando, Fla., native won his first start of the year at the Fighting Illini Invitational before finishing as the runner-up at both the Ping/Golfweek Preview and the Jack Nicklaus Invitational. His three showings extended his string of top-two finishes to six-straight events dating back to last spring.
With the win, Uihlein became the tournament's first repeat champion since Hal Sutton claimed medalist honors in 1978 and 1979.
Cowboy junior Morgan Hoffmann tied for ninth at 208 after closing with a 67, while senior Mark Johnson finished a stroke back at 209 and tied for 14th after a third-round 70.
Sophomore Drew Page tied for 49th place at 214 after carding a 71.
Redshirt freshman Brad Gehl missed the cut in the event after posting rounds of 78 and 74.
