KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Oklahoma State soccer star AD Franch has become the second player in program history to be named a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy.
A sophomore goalkeeper for the Cowgirls, Franch joins former star Yolanda Odenyo (2008) as the only players in OSU history to be named a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, which is the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer. Franch is one of 15 semifinalists for the 2010 award.
Franch helped OSU to the best season in program history in 2010, anchoring a defense that helped the Cowgirls compile a 20-4-2 record and reach the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship for the first time in school history.
A native of Salina, Kan., Franch started all 26 games for the Cowgirls this season and logged 2,334 minutes in goal. She led the Big 12 Conference with nine shutouts in 2010, a total which ranked as the second highest in single season in school history and one that raised her career shutout total to 20. She ranked second in the league in goals against average (0.73) and save percentage (.826) and finished the season with 90 saves.
Franch has already picked up several honors this season, including spots on the NSCAA All-Central Region First Team and the All-Big 12 First Team. She was also named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team and to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season First Team.
Head coaches of Division I programs who are current members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America will vote to determine the 2010 MAC Hermann Trophy recipient. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 10, and those finalists will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference on Jan. 7 to announce the winner.
