Lopez Named ESPN Academic All-America

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's Krista Lopez made history today when she was named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America Women's Soccer First Team.
A junior forward for the Cowgirls, Lopez became the first-ever OSU player to earn first-team Academic All-America honors from ESPN. She is the fifth player in program history to earn Academic All-America status from the network, joining Niccole Grimaldi (second team in 2007), Yolanda Odenyo (second team in 2008), Jessica Jarrell (third team in '08) and Jamie Markaverich (third team in '08).
Lopez is a double major in Management and Accounting and has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average at OSU. She is one of just three members of the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America First Team to have that distinction.
A two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, Lopez is also a seven-time OSU President's Honor Roll recipient and was named a 2010 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar (first team).
Lopez has also been a star on the field for the Cowgirls in 2010. She has helped lead OSU to its first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and a school record for wins, along the way capturing All-Big 12 Conference First Team and Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team honors.
A native of Carrollton, Texas, Lopez leads OSU with 14 goals, a total that ranks 12th nationally this season and is also the third-most goals in a single season in school history. She has added four assists to give her a team-high 32 points, and she also tops the Cowgirls and the Big 12 with seven game-winning goals.
The ESPN Academic All-America Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. To be eligible for Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
