Oklahoma State Postgame Quotes
vs Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010
Senior Forward Marshall Moses
On the game tonight
“We are taking it step by step. We are playing better teams each time we come out here. It is up to us to get better. We can give credit to Corpus Christi, they brought it. They rebounded and they played hard. They make us play that way. We made plays when we needed to and played hard tonight.”
On missing so many shots
“Guys that missed shots, normally make them and they will make them. I have no doubt in my mind about that. We missed a lot of free throws. I missed a lot of free throws.”
Sophomore Guard Ray Penn
Regarding making his shots
“To be honest, I was just playing ball. We ran a play when the shot clock was running out and Coach (Ford) trusted me with the ball and I just made the play. I wasn't thinking about it. I was just playing ball.”
Head Coach Travis Ford
On the game
“I thought we played a little bit better tonight and we did some things better than we did in the first game. When you miss as many layups as we did and point-blank opportunities, it puts so much pressure on your defense. It can be very discouraging to miss layups like that. I think it took its toll on us a little bit. Because we were getting the ball where we wanted, we were playing hard, we were getting offensive rebounds, we were executing the way we wanted, but we were just not putting the ball in the hole. When that happens it can do a lot of things to the mental aspect of your team and it can put a lot of pressure on your defense. But I thought we made plays when we needed to tonight in a very close game which I knew it would be. I knew Corpus Christi was going to be a very physical team against us.
On the weaknesses of the team right now
“We made some more positive steps. One of our biggest problems right now is just guys understanding. Guys understanding when to be, where to be, how to do it, time and score, when to shoot, when not to shoot, when to drive and when not to drive. We just made a lot of bad decisions tonight. Some guys haven't figured that out.”
On the roles of the team
“Marshall Moses is probably the only guy who is in the same role as he has been since he's been here. Keiton Page has a different role. Nick Sidorakis has a different role. Matt Pilgrim has a different role. We have some guys who have different roles and we're still trying to figure out how to accelerate with those roles. It's just a work in progress. I thought this was a small step forward for the few things we got to work on in the last couple games from the Houston Baptist game. We still have a ways to go but that's not uncommon. It's just our second game and it's still early. We have to stay positive and keep working.”
