STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State sophomore wide receiver Justin Blackmon is one of 10 national semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award presented to the nation's top wide receiver, it was announced today.
Blackmon leads the nation with 1,430 receiving yards, 158.9 receiving yards per game, 16 touchdown receptions and 12.0 points scored per game. He is second nationally with 9.3 receptions per game and is sixth in the country with 168.2 all-purpose yards per game.
Blackmon's 2010 season is becoming historical beyond the OSU record book. He has already set an OSU record with a touchdown reception in nine straight games and at least 100 receiving yards in nine straight games. His yardage total already represents the third-best total in school history.
His 17 touchdown receptions already rank him No. 19 on the NCAA's all-time single-season list. The national record is 27 by Troy Edwards of Louisiana Tech. The Big 12 record is 22 by Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree in 2007.
Blackmon is also closing in on a national record. The best receiving total ever by a sophomore is 1,672 yards by Larry Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh in 2003. Blackmon is 242 yards shy of that total. If the Cowboys play three more games, Blackmon would need to average 80.7 yards per game to re-set the NCAA mark.
The 2010 Biletnikoff Award will be presented as part of The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. ET.
