WINDERMERE, Fla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 298 team total on Sunday to stand in a tie for sixth place after one round of play at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club.
The Cowboys' 10-over score knotted them with Vanderbilt and put them one shot behind Texas Tech for fifth place. TCU and Stanford both tallied 290s at the par-72, 7,544-yard layout to share the lead by a stroke over Alabama.
Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus was the only player in the field to break 70 on the day, firing a 3-under 69 to lead by a stroke over a trio of players.
OSU's Morgan Hoffmann was one of eight players to card a 71 and will begin his second round tied for fifth. Starting on the back nine, the junior stood at 1-over before making his first birdie on the 18th. Hoffmann moved to 2-under with birdies at the fourth and seventh before a bogey at the eighth gave him his 1-under total.
Joining Hoffmann in the top 20 was senior Kevin Tway, who carded a 73 to come in tied for 15th.
Freshman Talor Gooch opened with a 76 to finish tied for 32nd, while classmate Ian Davis' 78 tied him for 50th.
Redshirt freshman Brad Gehl made his OSU debut with a 79 to finish in a tie for 59th.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with Ohio State and SMU.
