SAN MARTIN, Calif. - A trio of former Oklahoma State golfers all earned top-five finishes on Sunday at the PGA Tour's Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club.
Bo Van Pelt tied for second at 270, 14-under, after posting an even-par 71 during his final round. Van Pelt finished one shot behind champion Rocco Mediate, who holed out a shot from the fairway on No. 17 for eagle to post a 73 and hold on to the top spot.
The runner-up showing for Van Pelt was his sixth of the year and his best result since winning the U.S. Bank Championship last year in Milwaukee.
Rickie Fowler finished alone in fourth and one shot ahead of fellow Cowboy Chris Tidland. Fowler posted a 2-under 69 for a 271, while Tidland carded a 69 of his own to come in at 272 and in fifth place.
For Fowler, the finish was his fifth top five of the year. The Murrieta, Calif., native has a pair of runner-up showings after placing second to former OSU star Hunter Mahan at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and as the runner-up to Justin Rose at The Memorial Tournament.
Tidland's top five was his first of the year and his best finish since tying for ninth at The Honda Classic in March.
On the European Tour, former OSU standout Pablo Martin tied for sixth place at the Portugal Masters at 15-under 273 after a final-round 75. The Malaga, Spain, native held a three-shot lead entering the final round and was in search of his second European Tour win this season after claiming the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
