STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State will continue a trend next month when two former football players take the field for Super Bowl XLIV.
Cowboy football alumni Charlie Johnson and Jacob Lacey are both starters for the Indianapolis Colts, who will take on the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV on Feb. 7 in Miami, Fla.
With Johnson and Lacey hoping to lead Indy to a title, it will mark the fourth-straight Super Bowl game that a former Oklahoma State Cowboy has participated on the NFL's biggest stage.
It will also mark the 28th Super Bowl in which OSU has been represented with at least one participant, and Lacey will become the 17th different Cowboy to play in the game.
Johnson, the Colts' starting left tackle, will become the seventh different Cowboy to play in multiple Super Bowls.
A fourth-year pro who has started 14 games this season, Johnson played for Indy's Super Bowl champion team as a rookie in 2006. He will be looking to become the third former OSU player, along with Jon Kolb and Dexter Manley, to win at least two Super Bowl rings.
Lacey has been one of the NFL's biggest surprises this season.
After going undrafted last April, Lacey signed a free agent deal with Indy. All he's done in his rookie season is start 10 games at cornerback and been named to the NFL All-Rookie Team by both Pro Football Weekly and Sporting News. He leads the Colts with 13 passes defensed, ranks second with three interceptions and is fourth in tackles with 84. He also has nine stops on special teams.
Lacey recorded six tackles from his cornerback spot and added a tackle on special teams in last Sunday's AFC Championship Game win over the New York Jets.
