Cowgirls Fall To BYU In Double Overtime

PROVO, Utah - BYU scored in the 103rd minute to lift the No. 22 Cougars to a 2-1 win over 20th-ranked Oklahoma State Monday at South Field.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for OSU, which dropped to 3-2-0. The Cougars improved to 3-1-1.
Jennie Marshall netted the game-winning goal off an assist from Carlee Payne to give BYU the win.
OSU recorded its only goal early. Just under five minutes into the match, Kyndall Treadwell juked her defender and found herself one-on-one with BYU goalkeeper McKinzie Olson, The Cowgirl sophomore won the battle as her shot found the back of the net to give OSU a 1-0 advantage at the 40:09 mark.
BYU had one of its best chances of the opening half in the 31st minute. Off a corner kick, Jessica Ringwood blasted a shot from just outside the box. But OSU goalie Adrianna Franch made a diving save to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Franch saved the Cowgirls again at the 4:21 mark, once again diving to stop a shot by Ringwood. After a scramble in front of the goal for the loose ball, OSU was able to secure a goal kick and thwart the rally.
Midway through the second half, OSU appeared to take a 2-0 lead on another Treadwell goal, but the Cowgirls were called for a foul and the score was erased.
That foul proved costly as BYU recorded the equalizer with 19:58 left in the match. After the Cowgirls failed to clear the ball, Ringwood sent a pass into the box that Payne headed past Franch to tie the score at 1-1.
With just over six minutes remaining, OSU twice came within inches of regaining the lead.
The first opportunity came when Kasey Langdon beat the defense down the near side. But Olson saved the shot to keep the Cowgirls off the scoreboard. Seconds later, Annika Niemeier blasted a shot from 30 yards out that sailed just over the crossbar.
Langdon nearly netted the game winner with just 10 seconds remaining in regulation, but her shot from 10 yards out sailed high.
At the 2:50 mark of the first overtime, Payne headed a shot towards the goal that got past Franch. But Carson Michalowski made a game-saving play as she kicked the ball off the line to keep the tie intact.
Just over a minute later, it was BYU with a match-extending save as Langdon's shot was saved over the crossbar by a leaping Olson.
OSU returns to action Friday at Rice.
