Cowboy Golf Leads After Day One At Ping/Golfweek Invitational

Oklahoma State's men's golf team built a 12-shot lead after a 36-hole day on Sunday at the Ping/Golfweek Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
The Cowboys carded an opening 290 to lead by five before firing a 1-under 287 during the afternoon round to see their margin swell to double figures. OSU finished the day with a 1-over total of 577 to lead runner-up Washington by a dozen strokes and Southern California and LSU by 15 shots at the par-72, 7,061-yard layout.
Three Cowboys made their way into the top five individually led by sophomore Peter Uihlein.
The Orlando, Fla., native fired a 4-under total of 140 that included rounds of 69 and 71 to stand three shots clear of the field. LSU's Andrew Loupe was the only other player to finish the day under par with his 1-under 143 total.
Uihlein began the day with a bogey-free round that saw him go out in 1-under with a birdie at the par-3 fourth hole. On his inward nine he used birdies on Nos. 10 and 18 for his opening 69. During his afternoon round, Uihlein stood at 1-over par through 13 holes before using birdies at Nos. 14 and 16 to move back under par and finish with a 1-under 71.
Coming off a win in the fall opener at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, senior Trent Whitekiller continued to impress. The Sallisaw, Okla., native posted rounds of 71 and 73 to stand at even-par 144 and in a tie for third with sophomore teammate Morgan Hoffmann.
Hoffmann bounced back from an opening 74 with a 2-under 70 during the afternoon to climb nine spots into a tie with Whitekiller.
After opening with a 78, junior Mark Johnson rallied with a 1-over 73 to move up 22 spots into a tie for 29th at 7-over 151.
Junior Kevin Tway posted rounds of 76 and 79 to finish with a 155 total and tied for 56th place.
