Two Cowboys Named To U.S. Walker Cup Team

FAR HILLS, N.J. - A pair of Oklahoma State Cowboys will represent the United States this fall at the Walker Cup it was announced today by the United States Golf Association. Rickie Fowler and Morgan Hoffmann were among the eight players named to the American team.
The prestigious event will be held Sept. 12-13 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
Fowler competed as a member of the victorious U.S. squad in 2007 at Royal County Down in Newcastle, Ireland. The Murrieta, Calif., native went 3-1 during the event, which also featured former Cowboys Trip Kuehne and Jonathan Moore.
A Walker Cup rookie, Hoffmann joins Alabama's Bud Cauley as the youngest players selected at 19 years of age. The Wyckoff, N.J., native has had success at Merion, where he made match play at the 2005 U.S. Amateur as a 15-year-old.
The final two players of the team that will compete against 10 amateurs representing Great Britain and Ireland will be named following the conclusion of the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship, scheduled to be played Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
The biennial Walker Cup Match consists of 16 singles matches and eight foursomes matches. The United States has won the last two matches and leads the series overall, 33-7-1.
