Langdon Candidate For Lowe's Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Oklahoma State's Kasey Langdon is one of 30 candidates for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer, it was announced today.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, character, community and competition.
"Lowe's is proud to be associated with the nominees for the Senior CLASS Award in soccer," said Bob Gfeller, Lowe's senior vice president of marketing and advertising. "Each of the student-athletes has shown a tremendous commitment to their studies during their college careers. They have also demonstrated great character and a passion for community service."
Langdon, who hails from Wylie, Texas, is a team captain for the Cowgirls this season and carries a 3.27 GPA in nutritional sciences-allied health. She was named to the NSCAA/adidas College Scholar All-American second team in 2008 and also earned a spot on the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-South Region Team. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 Conference First Team honoree.
A forward for the Cowgirls, Langdon is the on the 2009 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List and was a preseason All-Big 12 selection. As a junior, she earned All-Big 12 First Team and All-Central Region accolades after finishing second on the OSU squad in scoring with 36 points. Her 14 assists in 2008 led the conference and ranked fifth nationally, and she also ranked third on OSU and in the league with 11 goals. She tied for the Big 12 lead with five game-winning goals.
Langdon is a volunteer for the American Red Cross and serves on the OSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also active in the Nutrition Science Club and the PA Club.
This marks the third year for the men's and women's soccer division of the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, and more than 175 student-athletes were nominated.
The list of 30 women's soccer candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote involving media, coaches and fans. The winner will be announced at the 2009 Women's College Cup in December.
