STILLWATER - For the first time in school history, the Oklahoma State football team is ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press preseason football poll.
The Cowboys are No. 9 (tied with Penn State) in the 2009 preseason balloting released today by the AP. The Cowboys are one of three Big 12 teams in the AP top 10 and one of five Big 12 teams in the top 25.
The 2009 preseason ranking tops OSU's previous best, held by the 1985 Cowboys. That squad entered season ranked No. 16 by the Associated Press.
Prior to 2008, Oklahoma State had not been ranked in over three years. OSU re-entered the AP poll after that hiatus on Sept. 28, 2008, following a 55-24 win over Troy. OSU has been ranked every week since and climbed to as high as No. 7 last season. The Cowboys were ranked No. 16 in the final AP poll of last season.
The Cowboys open the season Sept. 5 by hosting No. 13 Georgia in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
