KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Oklahoma State senior forward Kasey Langdon is one of 45 players on the Missouri Athletic Club's 2009 Women's Hermann Trophy Watch List, it was announced today by the NSCAA.
Considered the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer, the recipients of the MAC's Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. A list of 15 semifinalists is selected by a coaches committee in November, with three finalists announced in early December. They will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo., for a news conference on Jan. 9, 2009, where the winner will be announced.
Langdon, a native of Wylie, Texas, earned first-team All-Big 12 Conference and All-Central Region honors as a junior last season after finishing second on the OSU squad in scoring with 36 points.
One of the top scoring threats on a team that led the nation in scoring offense in 2008, Langdon's 14 assists topped the Big 12 and ranked fifth nationally. She became just the second Cowgirl in school history to record 10 or more assists in a season and was also only the second OSU player to have multiple three-assist games in a career as she racked up three assists against Xavier and McNeese State.
Langdon also ranked third on OSU and in the conference with 11 goals, and she tied for the Big 12 lead with five game-winning goals.
“Kasey will be the focal point for us up front this season,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. “Towards the end of last year, teams really took note of her and were trying to shut her down. It puts a little more pressure on her to perform because she's going to be a key player.
“She's a great set-up player, and one-v.-one she's about as good as any attacking player I've seen in the country. When she gets the ball facing a defender, she's dynamite. She can beat people off the dribble, she can shoot and she's fast.”
Langdon enters her senior season ranked among OSU's career leaders in a number of categories. She is tied for third in career assists with 23, and her 19 career goals is tied for seventh. With 61 career points, she is sixth on the Cowgirls' all-time list.
The Cowgirls open the '09 season with an exhibition match Saturday against Tulsa at 7 p.m. at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
