FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Oklahoma State's Merritt Dietz competed Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing in 25th place in the qualifying round of the women's discus throw with a mark of 46.41 meters.
"I felt good going in," Dietz said. "I had some good technique in the warmups, but I went out there and just reverted to some of my old habits and it didn't work out for me. I feel like I left a lot out there and that's very disappointing."
Dietz's career at Oklahoma State comes to an end with her effort at the NCAA Championships. Her career honors include a school record in the discus throw and the second-best school mark in the shot put, as well as five all-Big 12 performances. She also qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
"Merritt's had a great career here; probably better than any other OSU thrower," Cowgirls throws coach John Baumann said. "On the conference level she placed in the discus and shot and she has contributed greatly to Oklahoma State."
Oklahoma State returns to action at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, when Big 12 and Midwest Region Performer of the Year German Fernandez competes in the 1,500-meter semifinal heat.
