Goodbye Glasglow! Hello Edinburgh!
We woke up early, just to fall back asleep on the two-hour bus ride to Edinburgh. We awoke to find ourselves surrounded by an array of buildings, similar to the ones you picture were existent in the olden days. Go figure, these buildings were, as a matter of fact, as old as we could imagine. The town had a miraculous atmosphere, characterized by one-way streets and hills that made the city look crowded, yet peaceful.
We were dropped off at the top of the hill where Edinburgh Castle laid. We were given two choices: pay 12 pounds to enter the castle or walk around and shop. We do not get to see many castles in America, so a few of us decided to visit the castle. The line was fairly long and took about 10 minutes to get through. Once out, we entered the gates of Edinburgh Castle and examined its beauty. Much different than Culzean Castle, it was more of a castle built for defense. This was easily concluded due to the many cannons installed around the outer walls. Similar to a small village, we walked around and had the honor to view many splendid items, such as the royal jewels.
After leaving the castle, we went walking on the streets of Edinburgh. Being a town crawling with tourist, there were many souvenir shops available. After entering every store, it grew apparent that they basically all sold the same stuff. However, a fortunate few of us were able to find what we were searching for. An unfortunate few of us got lost on our way back to the bus, and went through an unsuspected adventure. On the bright side, getting lost led us to see many nice buildings we would have not seen. After everyone arrived safely on the bus, we left for our hotel.
After a few minutes of rest, we went to pick up a box of fish and chips for dinner. We parked and ate on the bus, then were dropped off at our haunted tour meeting spot. A tall, young gentleman in a cloak was to be our guide. You had to appreciate his acting skills, for he was very entertaining. He showered us with many scary and gruesome stories of what use to take place in the streets of Edinburgh. We finally descended into the underground vaults, where things got more interesting. It was dark with a few candles lit and the walls leaked water, which did not help with the coldness. After a few more scary stories, the tour came to an end. We thanked our guide and departed to the hotel.
A very loaded and eventful day I may say. Enjoyable, nonetheless.
