Sarac Hits Personal Bests on Day One of Big 12s

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Oklahoma State women's track and field team began its competition Friday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Texas Tech University, with Tihana Sarac and Tone Hjalmarsen opening the meet for the Cowgirls.
Sarac began the day with the first four event of the heptathlon, where she set three personal event records.
The 100-meter hurdles was Sarac's first event of the day, where she finished in 14.84 seconds. The high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash followed, where she recorded marks of 1.54 meters, 11.95 meters and 25.82 seconds, respectively. With the exception of the shot put, each of Sarac's marks from the first day of the heptathlon set personal records.
It was also the first time in Sarac's career that she has recorded 3,000 points in the first day of heptathlon competition, leaving her in fifth place heading into the remaining three events Saturday.
“Tihana had a really good day,” coach Rene Sepulveda said. “She set three personal records and also got to 3,000 points on the first day for the first time ever. She's in fifth place now and should be in really good position to score for the team tomorrow.”
Oklahoma State was also represented Friday in the 10,000 meters, where Tone Hjalmarsen ran to a 10th-place finish with a time of 37:58.98.
Hjalmarsen hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the event earlier this season when she finished in 34:29.63 at the Stanford Invitational.
The Cowgirls resume competition Saturday for the second day of the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
