The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer team will embark on a 12-day trip to the United Kingdom May 14, and OSU soccer fans can follow the Cowgirls' trip via OSU's official website, OKState.com, as blogs and pictures from the trip will be posted throughout the trip.
During the trip overseas, the Cowgirls will visit England and Scotland. Along with several training sessions, the team will play five exhibition games, four in Scotland and one in England.
Among the teams OSU will compete against are the No. 1 team in Scotland, Glasgow Celtic, and Scottish Cup finalist Glasgow Rangers. The Cowgirls will also take on English FA Cup finalist Sunderland, who narrowly lost in the FA Cup final to Arsenal Ladies, as well as Kilmarnock Ladies and Hibernian Ladies.
The Cowgirls will also visit numerous cultural and historical sites, including the Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, the Stirling Castle and William Wallace's monument, and will take in two professional soccer matches, one in the Scottish Premier League and one in the English Premier League.
"This trip is a wonderful opportunity for our student-athletes to learn about another culture and play some competitive matches," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "We will be visiting many historical sites and have the opportunity to interact with players from the UK.
"From a soccer standpoint, we are playing an additional five games which most other NCAA Division I teams will not get to play this year. These matches will help to prepare our team as we look forward to defending our Big 12 title this fall."
OSU's trip was made possible through the generous donations of OSU soccer fans who contributed to the OSU Goal Club.
"I would like to thank all of our loyal fans who participated in the Goal Club over the past few years for helping to make this trip possible," Carmichael said. "I would also like to thank Coach (Mike) Holder and our administration for supporting us in this endeavor. The team is very excited and cannot wait to compete in international matches."
