Cowgirl Softball drops series to Baylor, 2-0
April 05, 2009 | Cowgirl Softball
With the game scoreless entering the bottom of the second, Courtney Oberg had a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nicole Wesley. She then scored on a double down the leftfield line by Meagan Weldon.
Baylor added another run in the third when Bree Hanafin hit a solo home run over the left centerfield wall, her fifth of the season.
Cowgirl starting pitcher Anna Whiddon threw six innings and struck out three, but was unable to keep the Bears off the scoreboard. BU freshman hurler Whitney Canion was more effective, striking out nine while walking just one and allowing just the three hits by Heinlein.
Oklahoma State threatened to make it a game in the fourth inning. With two outs, freshman Julie Ward walked and went to third on Heinlein's second hit of the game to straightaway center. However, Megan Castle struck out to end the inning.
Oklahoma State (27-11, 3-3 Big 12) travels south to College Station, Texas, and will play the Texas A&M Aggies (23-14, 1-4) on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
