Cowboys Defeat Texas-Arlington, 6-2
April 29, 2009 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State used a big third inning to snap a two-game losing skid Tuesday night at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium as the 26th-ranked Cowboys topped Texas-Arlington by a 6-2 margin.
With the win, OSU improved to 29-17. The Cowboys are 19-7 on their home field this season.
Tyrone Hambly and Kevin David led the OSU offense as that duo combined for five of the Cowboys' nine hits and three RBIs.
David finished the contest 3-for-4, and with hits in his first three at bats, extended a string of consecutive at bats with a hit to seven. With a groundout in his final at bat of the game, David's consecutive-hits streak ended at seven, just three shy of Roberto Lopez' school record of 10 consecutive hits.
On the mound, OSU starter Thomas Keeling improved to 5-1 as the sophomore southpaw worked 6.1 innings and allowed just two runs, only one of them earned, on two hits. Jared Starks worked the final 2.2 innings in relief and did not allow a run to earn his first save of the season.
UTA (23-21) took the game's first lead on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Davis in the second inning, but the Mavericks would not be on top for long.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third when the Cowboys rallied for five runs on six hits against UTA starter Rett Varner.
Dean Green opened the frame with a single, and after a sacrifice bunt, Micheal Dabbs plated OSU's first run with an RBI single to tie the score.
Dabbs' single would be the first of four consecutive RBI hits for the Cowboys. Hambly followed with a single, and a double by David made the score 3-1.
OSU was not done. Medchill followed David with another RBI single, and two batters later, Jared Womack drove in the Cowboys' fifth run of the inning with yet another base hit.
The Mavericks added an unearned run in the sixth on another sacrifice fly, and the game's final run came in the seventh when Hambly blasted his seventh home run of the season over the wall in left-center field.
OSU returns to action Wednesday with its final non-conference game of the season as the Cowboys take on Bacone College at 4 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
