Cowgirl Track and Field Set for Sooner Invitational

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State women's track and field team travels to Norman, Okla., Saturday to compete at the Sooner Invitational, hosted by the University of Oklahoma at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex.
This meet marks the Cowgirls' second trip to Norman this outdoor season, following the John Jacobs Invitational on April 11.
Oklahoma State, coming off a busy weekend that included competition at four different meets, will send a group of about 20 athletes to compete in 13 different events, including NCAA regional qualifiers Merritt Dietz and Baiba Blumbaha.
Dietz headlines the Cowgirl group competing in the discus throw, where she reached a mark of 53.25 meters earlier this year, while Blumbaha leads the Cowgirls in the triple jump, where she has reached a season-best 12.42 meters, and long jump, where she holds a season best of 5.89 meters, just 0.11 meters shy of the regional mark.
Several Cowgirls who have come close to regional marks this year will be trying to reach those marks Saturday. In addition to Blumbaha, Kristen Gillespie, who has finished just over the 800 meters time, Kendra Woodson, who has finished within two seconds of the 400-meter hurdles time on several occasions, Courtney Gougler, who is just about two meters shy of the discus mark, Katie Hamilton, who has thrown the shot put only 0.07 meters short of the mark, and Clarissa Andrews, who leapt 12.49 meters in triple jump with a wind speed disqualification for the mark, are all aiming to hit regional marks.
All events will be held Saturday, with the exception of the hammer throw on Friday afternoon. Saturday's action is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with the javelin throw and conclude at 4:45 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
