Coach Mike Gundy
On the game and goals for the spring game
“We had a good spring game today; it was a lot of fun. Our goal as a coaching staff was to get the young players that hadn't competed much in a pressure situation to get out there and see what they could do.”
On team's performance
“We were excited about the plays some of those young guys made. I thought the defense played well in the end. I was particularly pleased with our running backs, our young running backs, the way they competed.”
On the coaching staff's approach to the game
“The coaches are notorious for putting in trick plays for the spring game; they're also notorious for stealing each other's signals. I saw some of that going on where they were stealing each other's signals. We try to have as much fun as we can. The game is a little bit vanilla on both sides just because of lack of experience.”
On backup quarterbacks
“I thought they played OK. I didn't watch it real close. I didn't think either one of them threw the ball particularly well. I'll have to watch the tape and see what situation they were put in. I think at times they were under a pretty good amount of pressure.”
On Hubert Anyiam
“He made some plays. He had a couple drops that concerned me a little but that's part of the maturity process that he has to go through. He's been sitting behind Dez for two years, but it was good that he was out there this spring and he was a guy they were counting on. He did make some plays when he had the ball in his hands.”
On Jeremiah Price and other defensive players
“Jeremiah's done really well, he had a good spring. Jeremiah is 267 now, he played at 250 last year. He's really matured and had a good spring. Donald Booker has had a good spring. Chris Donaldson made some plays. Ugo, Jamie Blatnick, Derek BurtonÂall those guys have had a good spring.”
Linebacker Andre Sexton
On Bill Young's defensive system
"We're pretty much building on what we've been doing the last couple of years. He didn't come in and change the program and the whole scheme up. He just lets us play and keep making strides in what we were doing well at last year and it's been working for us."
On OSU's linebackers
"We've got a lot of veterans coming back, a lot of guys that had a lot of playing time and guys that can fly around and want to hit you."
On being ranked about No. 7 in the preseason polls
"I think it's pretty amazing. Since I've been here, we hadn't reached the top 25 and then last year we did that. It just motivates you and makes you want to just keep working harder."
On Donald Booker
"He's always going to give you the big hits and he's always going to fly around. He's just a real athletic guy. He's going to come in and he's going to play a lot for us next year and he brings that intimidating factor. You see it on kick-off and it's just going to transfer over to defense next year and he's going to get a lot more reps."
On the secondary's performance
"I think they did well. They didn't really give up anything deep. You saw a couple long plays, some underneath stuff that we can fix, but we've got guys that are willing to work back there. They're young, but they come in, they're talented, they want to work and get better. They take coaching, so they're just going to keep growing and developing. Once they get some game time experience, they're going to blossom."
Quarterback Zac Robinson
On the game
"It was good. It was fun to get out here and play in front of the fans. That's what we do, we're performers. It was good to see some guys come out here and make plays like they have been all spring and we had a good time."
On the other quarterbacks
"I thought they did some good things. Without seeing any tape or anything, I thought both of them made some good throws and made some good plays and moved the offense. So I think it was good."
On running trick plays
"Oh, it's fun. You get in the meeting room and Coach Meacham draws up these trick plays, it was a lot of fun, so it was good to do that."
On the receivers
"I think Hubert Anyiam had a pretty good day, he made some big plays, and Justin Blackmon had some catches; and there are some other guys that have stepped up and just didn't really get an opportunity today."
Quarterback Brandon Weeden
On the depth of the offense
"We have guys at every position. Obviously, we've got Dez Bryant, but we've got some young guys. Justin Blackmon's stepping up at receiver. DeMarcus Conner played well last year. We've got guys around us; Zac and me and Alex Cate, that can make plays. Our offensive line is very, very sound up front. Coach Wickline does a great job with those guys. I think our overall offense is clicking."
