STILLWATER, Okla. Â On the 50-year anniversary of its lone NCAA national championship in baseball, Oklahoma State baseball will be honoring members of that 1959 team with a reunion and celebration Saturday in Stillwater.
Thirteen members of the 1959 team have confirmed a return to Stillwater for this Saturday's festivities, including College World Series MVP Jim Dobson and Dick Soergel, who was the winning pitcher in the title game against Arizona.
“This is a special way for us to honor a group of guys who left a huge mark on this program,” said OSU head coach Frank Anderson. “Winning a national championship is something everyone strives to do, and we felt honoring this accomplishment on the 50th anniversary would be really special for everyone involved with Cowboy baseball.”
Prior to OSU's game against Baylor at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium, members of the 1959 team will be signing autographs in the third base area of the stadium from 12-12:40 p.m. The men will then be recognized on the field prior to the game.
Members of the team will also be introduced to Cowboy fans prior to the OSU spring football scrimmage at 6 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.
The following is a list of those members of the 1959 team who have confirmed they will be at Saturday's reunion: Jim Dobson, Dick Soergel, Tim Green, Lew Wade, Mike Mulvihill, Connie McIlvoy, Ben Bancroft, Tim Smalley, Don Soergel, Roy Peterson, Jim Mihura, Marvin Kline and Joel Horlen.
