Dietz, Blumbaha Win at John Jacobs Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. Â– The Oklahoma State women's track and field team had a big day on Saturday at the John Jacobs Invitational, as more than 20 athletes competed in 15 different events, including outstanding performances in the discus throw and triple jump. Merritt Dietz proved again to be dominant in the discus, throwing her way to a first-place finish with a mark of 52.28 meters, nearly five meters better than the NCAA regional qualifying mark. Katie Hamilton also threw well in the event, tossing a season-best 42.85 meters. The triple jump was also successful for Oklahoma State, as Cowgirls Baiba Blumbaha, Clarissa Andrews and Mateja Posavec claimed the top three spots with marks of 12.42, 12.08 and 12.06 meters, respectively. Blumbaha's mark not only easily passed the regional mark of 12.32 meters, but also passed her previous season-best mark of 12.33 meters. Other notable finishes for the Cowgirls included Victoria Fratczak in the 1,500 meters, Camille Schultz in the 5,000 meters, Clarissa Andrews in the long jump, Courtney Gougler in the hammer throw, Sabrena Switzer in the javelin throw and Katie Hamilton in the shot put, all of whom finished third in their respective events. It is also worth noting that Hamilton's shot put toss of 14.23 meters is only 0.07 meters from the regional qualifying mark of 14.30 meters. Oklahoma State is scheduled to return to action next weekend, as the Cowgirls travel to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt.
