Cowgirls Rally in Final Inning to Defeat Shockers 4-2

Heinlein hits three-run home run to win the game

Wichita, Kan. (OSU Athletics <http://www.okstate.com>) Â— The Oklahoma State softball team scored four runs in the seventh inning to come back and beat the Shockers 4-2 in Wichita Wednesday evening. Junior Sam Heinlein hit her second home run of the season to score three runs with two outs in the seventh.

Neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth when Shockers (7-9) catcher Heather Gerritse singled through the right side and scored runners who were on second and third.

The Cowgirls (12-4) rallied back in the top of the seventh as Bright got her third hit of the day and was followed with a hit by Alysia Hamilton. Megan Castle then reached on a fielders choice and the pinch runner Sammy Jo Diffendaffer was out at second and Bright ended up at third. Julie Ward then reached first on a fielding error by Wichita State's shortstop and Bright scored from third. Then catcher Heinlein stepped up for a three-run home run to left field.

Sophomore Odom (6-1) started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw six innings giving up no earned runs of six hits while striking out six. Junior Anna Whiddon relieved Odom in the seventh and retired the final three batters to get her first save of the season.

The Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend as they host the Mizuno Classic in Stillwater. Play will begin on Friday at 11 a.m. with Northern Colorado facing Drake. OSU will play Cleveland State at 7 p.m.
