Cowgirls Set for UTA; Stanford Invitationals

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State women's track and field team is back in action this weekend, as members of the team will compete at both the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the UTA Bobby Lane Track and Field Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
Three distance runners are headed to Stanford, including Natalia Kovtun and Mihaela Susa in the 5,000 meters and Tone Hjalmarsen in the 10,000 meters. All three are competing in their first outdoor event of the 2009 season and were NCAA regional qualifiers in 2008.
Both races will take place on Friday.
A large group of athletes will compete at the UTA Bobby Lane Track and Field Invitational, where the Cowgirls will be represented in 11 events.
Clarissa Andrews returns to long and triple jump competition after reaching personal records in both events last weekend at the Tulsa Invitational.
Tihana Sarac competes for the first time this outdoor season, running the 800 meters, as well as throwing the javelin and shot put.
Merritt Dietz, who qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials a year ago, will throw the discuss and the shot put for Oklahoma State, trying to reach NCAA regional qualifying marks in both events.
The largest group of athletes Oklahoma State has entered in one event is in the 5,000-meter run, where Leah Schroeder, Victoria Fratczak, Camille Schultz, Courtney Schultz, Heather Estetter and Teran Mixon will compete.
The event is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with the hammer throw and conclude at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday with the 4x400-meter relay.
