Cowgirl Softball Falls to Tulsa, 5-3
March 26, 2009 | Cowgirl Softball
Oklahoma State freshman Kelsey Anchors hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth and tie the game at 3-3, but back-to-back homers by Lauren Menke and Kailey Yarmer gave the Tulsa Golden Hurricane the 5-3 victory here Wednesday afternoon at the Hardesty Sports Complex. Tulsa took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when a pair of runs scored as a result of an infield error. Jessica Stoelke scored from second when Alysia Hamilton misplayed a throw by Ashley Boyd on a sacrifice bunt by Stephanie Chomicki. Chomicki advanced to third on the error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Skylar Swanson. The Golden Hurricane made it 3-0 in the third on three hits in the inning. Yarmer led off with a double to left field and scored on an infield single by Vanessa Vice. Sarah Odom replaced Alex Villalobos in the circle for OSU and with the bases loaded, struck out Swanson for the final out. Oklahoma State trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the fourth. Hamilton and Megan Castle both singled and scored on a double by Taylor Marcum over the leftfielder's outstretched glove. Marcum was thrown out at home on a base hit by the next batter, Chelsea Garcia. Anchors hit her home run over the left centerfield fence to lead off the fifth and tie the game. Menke's homer hit the scoreboard in left field and Yarmer's was to straight-away center. Odom threw four innings for the Cowgirls but gave up the two solo home runs and took the loss to fall to 11-2. Jordan Kinard picked up the win for TU, improving to 6-4. Oklahoma State (25-7) will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to face the Nebraska Huskers (20-6) in a pair of Big 12 Conference games.
